Default **Please Help Problems W/ 2000 Montero Sport**

I'm having issues with my 2000 Montero Sport 3.0. Car runs fine for about for 5 minutes then wont go faster than 2mph and starts to chug and will eventually stall. Took it to a mechanic said the Mass air flow sensor was bad, I replaced that and still having the same problem. If you unplug the mass airflow sensor the car runs fine but at low rpms. With MASF plugged in no check engine light and scanners are not reading any codes.

Please Help

Look at the ECU side of the plastic connector for MASF. Are any of the pins loose or corroded? I had a Mazda that was doing the same thing, they had run the wires too short and over time the pin worked its way out of the back of the harness. Good luck.

Testing the MAF is easy. Plug the MAF in, rev the motor with the car parked...when you hear the problem. Unplug the MAF, if suddenly the more fixes itself, poof, its bad. If the computer is relying on the MAF, the motor runs like crap. As soon as the computer sees the MAF is off line, it will calibrate itself to account for that and give itself some parameters where the motor will run but way below peak performance specs.

With the MAF unplugged, you should be able to drive around. Your gas mileage will suck and the car will not be a hot rod but it should be driveable.
