Default 03 montero sport body vibration from 40-55 mph

I have been having this weird vibration issue for a while now. if i go slowe than 40 it won’t vibrate and if i go faster than 55 it won’t vibrate. I have replaced rotors, all 4 wheel bearings for the front (inner and outer), brake pads, got the car aligned, got wheels balanced, had ball joints and control arm bushings checked, replaced drive shaft carrier bearing, and that’s about it.

I have been stumped with this for a long time and am hoping someone has an answer.

Would your Monty happen to be a 4WD model? I remember someone having this exact issue and it wound up being his cv axles. He eventually found that any aftermarket cv axles would cause this issue because they were built different than the OEM ones. I would also check your transmission mount if you haven't already.

It is a 2wd, i feel like i remember the vibration changing a little bit when i replaced the carrier bearing but i cannot remember exactly. it’s weird bc it has been going on for about 2 years and has never gotten worse or caused any problems. One other thing is like I said I replaced all 4 wheel bearings in the front and rotors, but when i am going about 30 i feel like I hear a hint of bearing noise. the noise is kind of like the sound of the wheel rotating but it also goes away.

Thanks a lot for your response

Also, I had the transmission replaced bc the fluid was very dark even after I replaced it. got a used trans w decently low miles and a transmission cooler on top of that and the vibration permitted before and after the transmission change. does that still make you think it could be transmission mount? @Naeos_Valkarian

I had a '59 Ford that did that. Turned out to be the rear tranny seal. Just sayin'.

I was having this same issue. But it started out like I had blown a tire. Took it to my shop and of course they couldn’t find anything. They even drove it at speed and got nothing. They checked the axles and said they would need to be replaced. Then after a few weeks I had to get a new transmission and was having the 45-50 vibration. Now it’s back to the feeling like I have a blow out. Going to swap out the rear axle and see if that helps. I was told the bearings were probably warn out and they aren’t rolling around like they should be. I’ll keep you updated

I have not checked my axles or anything like that. But like I said, I checked out pretty much all of the front suspension parts myself and they are all fine. The only thing I see is my front tires have more wear on the inside and it’s pretty noticeable, but I figure if that was the issue I would feel it more in the steering wheel. The noise for my has never changed to be honest. It has always been a vibration and sometimes it seems like it’s gone, and other times it seems the exact same. the weird thing I have noticed is that if I hit a hump in the road and my suspension is unloaded a little bit the vibration seems to go away. So it has to be something that is rotating. @MikeE75

Mine starts about 20 mph now if I let off the gas it goes away. I limped my truck about 40 miles at 15 mph down the interstate. Hard right turns seem to make it go away. Probably put the weight on the axle helps it roll better. In its previous life it was an overlander and was probably pretty banged up and now I get to mess with all the broken stuff. But at least I don’t have a car payment lol

Have you replaced the front shocks/struts? This can cause the vibration you are having.
