04 Montero Won't Start, cranks fine, fuel and spark good
I have an '04 Mitsubishi Montero Limited 3.8L (Automatic / 4 wheel drive) w/ 120K miles, was running well -then Saturday I moved it in and out of the garage
(short running times, never warmed up) and then Sunday go to start it and it won`t start. Cranks over fine and acts like it's starting to catch, just won't
start. Smoke and smell of unburned fuel from the exhaust - figured plugs were fouled and replaced them, still the same. Pulled the codes - nothing, checked
fuel pressure - good at 50 PSI, pulled a plug wire and seems to have a good spark. Also checked the timing belt - lined up perfectly. What else can I check?

That did the trick! Amazing, I thought that was only for carburetors and no longer applicable with fuel injection - boy, was I wrong!
Glad I checked the timing belt while I was at it - I'm sure it's the original and I found on www.gates.com that this is an 'interference engine', I'd better replace it soon!
