Default 1991 Montero RS: Limited Slip Diff?

Hi, just purchased my first Montero, a 1991 RS last week.

I'm doing the usual "new to me" maintainence, new fluids, filters, etc. What I need help with is, how can I tell if my RS has a limited slip differential? Since LSD vs non-LSD require different gear oils, I need to know before I go out and buy the stuff.

Thx.

Several indicators to look for...
1) Decal on door frame / door indicating an LSD
2) Decal/plate on differential housing near the fill plug
3) Chock the front tires (front and rear of front tires). Release parking brake and raise rear of vehicle and turn one of your rear tires. If the other tire moves in the same direction you have an LSD or locked differential. If it moves in the opposite direction then it's an open diff.

Way to tell if it's locked or an LSD is to turn at ~10mph and listen for tire slip/screetch. If no screetch then LSD. If screetch then someone welded the rear spider gears creating a full time locked differential.

HTH

I also own an RS. It doesn't have limited slip. ONLY the LS version, (as in Limited Slip) has the, well you know, differential.
