Default 1997 Montero ls " Limp Mode "

Ok, i have a 1997 Montero LS. it has the A340H auto tranny. im assuming its in "LIMP MODE" When you put it in Drive it takes off in 3rd. over drive doesn't work and neither does passing gear. If you select 1st or 2nd manually it goes in to gear fine with NO slipping at all.
I changed the fluid and tranny filter and the shift solenoids in the transmission but it still not shifting. and no overdrive. the overdrive light works it just wont shift into it.
There is no check engine light on. I ran it for codes and none showed up. I can unplug the ECU and it makes no difference at all, it still starts up and drives just like it did.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, this thing is driving me crazy. thanks

nope, i'm fresh out of ideas. buy a manual next time.

(what do you mean overdrive light works but "it doesn't shift into it" - generally the o/d light is OD OFF and limits the box to 4th gear.)

(torque converter, shift linkages, electric sh*t... seriously. get a manual)
