Default 1998 montero brake help

Good morning! This being my first post, I am brand new to 4-wheel drive and Mitsubishis. While I'm excited to learn and modify I need to take care of some basic maintenance. I've recently done the timing belt, water pump etc.. but now I'm on to front and rear brake pads and rotors. I've searched the web numerous times for DIY's and I've found two solid tutorials, but both have conflicting info. My question is when I remove the dust cap and outer hub I'm left with 2 Phillips. I removed those and the part they screw to came right out. I just can't seem to undo the lock nut. I've tried the flat head trick and didn't even get a budge. Is there a trick I need to know or something I've skipped? I gave up because I had two hours and it started to snow on me. My 2nd question is I can't find any info for the rear disassembly, is there any specific tools I might need? Any input is appreciated! Thank you!
