1999 Montero slow coolant leak - Video included
Hello folks
So my 1999 Montero had developed a slow leak towards the Passenger side, I initially mistook it for an oil leak and assumed it was the infamous rear cam seals, so I replaced those yet the leak continued.
Now I drove it for a bit and and noticed that if the vehicle is just sitting parked it still leaks and a small puddle forms after a day or two. so I got under it and saw that yep - it was the greenish coolant... Now I do have to say I recently replaced my water pump so I was suspecting I might have messed up something during install, but I checked all the pipes including the small one with o-ring that runs between cylinders and it was dry
So today I removed the intake rubber tube, and took off the exhaust heat shield on the passenger side and I think I found where the coolant is leaking from, as you can see on the video
this looks like a freeze plug? please correct me if I'm wrong I never had to deal with those, would really appreciate if anyone can suggest how to deal with these? should I try to seal it or replace it?
any suggestion are welcome since my Monty is currently cripled

I assume that you videoed the engine block, as its tough to tell. However, since coolant is leaking from it, I assume its the freeze plug. Not sure why it has a nut through the center.....I suppose a new design to help hold it in place. I would drain the coolant and then unscrew that nut and try to remove it.....but first go to Rock Auto or someplace and order a new one to have ready to install. I just found a video on Youtube showing various freeze plugs, and what you have is a thick rubber one which simply pushes into the hole and then you just tighten that nut on it, making the rubber expand tight against the hole. So, you should just try tightening that nut first, and see if that stops the leak.....I bet it does. That type has a real thick rubber area which allows for great sealing.....so, just tighten her up and see what happens.
