Default 2000 montero loss of power

I have a 2000 montero limited with about 200,000 miles on it. It has been leaking oil, but have kept oil in it until I can afford to take it in to find out why. Last night my son was driving the car and he called me to tell me that the car had started a little hesitant and that none of the inside cluster was working. The speedometer, radio, dash lights, etc. The headlights were on though. A few minutes later he called me back to tell me the car had completely shut down leaving him at a red light on a fairly busy road. When I got to the scene we used my car to push it out of the road. By then the hazards were very dim and the alarm started to go off faintly. There was no power to even roll up the windows. I am hoping that it is something cheap and simple but I don't think so. Any ideas of what this could be? The alternator was replaced about two years ago and the battery was replaced about a year ago. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

test the alternator and the battery.
Then start checking wiring, fuses and circuits.
