2000 Montero Sport Engine Dead?
I have a 2000 Montero Sport LS 4x4 with 170,000 miles. Up until last night the engine ran great. An accessory belt slipped off while driving and wrapped itself around the harmonic balancer pulley which pulled pieces of it into the crankshaft and timing belt. The car stalled out and I found pieces of shredded belt between the crankshaft and timing belt which caused the timing belt to slip at least a few notches. I had it towed to the mechanic who confirmed the worst--the engine is shot.
It's not worth it to me to spend the 3k or more for a used engine swap, so what do I do with the car? Everything else works great on it so it's a shame to scrap it. I know parts have to be in demand because I see these model years all over the road. My mechanic said I could get $100 for it at a scrap yard. Any other ideas?
I'm in the phoenix area.
Thanks!

There is a website called www.rockautoparts.com that has after market price on parts. It would be a shame to scrap it! If I didn't live so far away I would buy it. You could part it out and get more money out of it. Here in Iowa Montero sports are scarce hard to find.
