2001 Montero Automatic Transmission trouble
Oh-oh..
Every now and then, when I put my Monty into Drive, the Neutral light will flash. It appears to drive ok, but I need to stop the car, turn it off, turn it on...maybe once or twice to get the Neutral light to go out.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

RE: 2001 Montero Automatic Transmission trouble
It could be a fault with the transmission or the fluid could be at an abnormally high temp.
Does it happen after a lot of driving, or short drives? Do you have the owners manual for it?

The $20 part and $600 labor solution...
I hope I didn't get totally hosed....
I was in NJ when I experienced the dreaded "terminal neutral flashinitis" disease. I couldn't get the thing to shift out of 3rd gear.
...called triple A and the dealer, Rte 10 Mitsubishi in northern NJ.
They took it in and told me that a wiring harness, inside the tranny, had broken loose and was resting on an internal shaft...over time, the insulation wore out and caused a system short (I was throwing off multiple tranny problem codes, so they were predicting an electrical issue). They fixed the harness, re-secured it and installed a new $20 censor and away I went.
I don't know if i got screwed, but i got home for Christmas!
