Default 2001 Montero Ltd Dash Fascia removal

I have tried to search on this topic with no success, so my apologies if it is redundant.

I need to reset my anti theft code, so I need to get the radio SN. I have removed the 2 screws above the center display, and have tried, gently, to pry the faux wood trim off with no success, asI am afraid I will break it.

Are there any tricks to prying this off, or do I need to remove more dash parts first?

Thanks in advance

The 2001 is different from the '97, but I took out the ash tray and removed its holder and the code was also on the bottom of the radio. It may take a flash light and a dental mirror or a younger set of eyes . . .

Thanks, Lichan,
There is a 6 cd changer under the radio and on top of the ashtray. That approach won't work.

I am having to reset my security code in my 2001 Montero Ltd as well. I removed the two screws above the clock. That loosened the top of the fascia. I took a flathead screwdriver and stuck it in between the fascia and the dash. I did this all the way around the fascia. By doing this the fascia popped loose. If done correctly, you should be able to take the fascia off now. It will still be connected by the electrical cord of the flasher button.

Good Luck.
