I just bought a 2001 montero. Not the sport one but the bigger, prettier model.
Went off roading yesterday and opened the sunroof. Now it doesnt close. The motor is good it cranks but makes this clicking noise and does not engage. I looked to see where i can find the motor but couldnt.
Questions:
- Where is the motor (I am guessing in the front)
-How can I get to it to clean it up and inspect it? It seems to be impossible.
I looked around to see if I can find any help on repair mauals but the pdf's I found online, didnt have much on roof motor.
I hope pictures would help.

 

To fully inspect, and hopefully repair, the sun roof, I believe you must begin by removing the fabric head liner on the inside.

Read through the FSM- Body: Sunroof Assembly section, it walks you through the process.
