2001 Montero Sport LS 3.0 4WD/TPS idle voltage
Hello everyone, just joined this forum today so I can finally address my issue. Well you see, I changed the TPS sensor(mikuni OEM certified), and for some reason the ECM can't adjust the idling voltage correctly. I was told by the mechanic that for this model montero, the TPS should adjust itself, well it won't. When I first replaced it, the trans would hop into third gear at high speeds, over 30, so I turned it counterclockwise to fix the issue. I read somewhere on the net that this car has a idle range of 500-750 milivolts, so I set it with a voltmeter at exactly 626 milivolts, and now the car runs fine, anything lower than this number or higher and the car doesnt run like it did before. I can still tell that the voltage is off because the engine knocks/vibrates heavily when I slowly go from idle into first(automatic trans), and the fact that the stupid check engine light is on. When I disconnect battery, check engine distinguishes, but only for a bout 15 miles until the engine relearns everything. Someone told me I might need the reflash the main computer, but isnt that risky?? Speaking of engine reflash, do any of you folks recommend taking away top end power in exchange for fuel economy if possible with a reprogrammer or flash program, because I hate this car and I hate the ****ing 14 mpg city that it comes with. I doubt a cold air would do much, 1-2 mpg increase, ohh wow, hit me with a meat cleaver!! Much appreciated for anyones advice!!!
