I used non-Mitsubishi transmission fluid in my 2002 Montero limited. It didn't work, so I drained it and used Mitsubishi ATF SP III, but it has since not worked. It won't shift into 3 and when I force it, the engine heats up. Any help?

 

Were you having issues with the transmission prior you do the initial trans fluid change?

SOunds like your transmission is done.

 

I've recently replaced a transmission on a 2002 Montero Limited and it won't shift higher than 2nd gear. When I call the place where I got the transmission from, I was told to look into replacing the "free cycle switch". Any truth to that?
