I have a 2002 Montero sport, and something underneath is knocking when I'm accelerating, and I can feel it in the floor. If I let up off the gas real quick, their is a big clunk noise. I check the front and rear drive shafts, and they feel nice and tight. Knocking is only during soft or hard acceleration. Pleassssse help

 

does it sound like 'ting'.
if yes then it might be the shaft's coupling.

 

Its not a ting sound. It feels like when a u-joint is going out, but the u-joints are tight. More of a thumbing sound. Can't feel it in the steering, just in the floor. When I decelerate quickly, it makes a solid thud.

 

not sure, but you might check the bushings and rubber mounts. the shouldn't be bad, but ya never know. Just my 2 cents worth.

 

try check the pitman arm bush.its the one holding the steering rod to the chassis.
when this bush worn out,the vibration is felt on the body and not the steering.
