I have a problem with my horn when weather gets below 15degreesF....the horns start honking. The only way to turn them off is to take the battery cable off. I have tried new relays to no avail unless someone knows of one not in the relay box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

I took out the fuse for the horn about 8 yrs ago. I know that sounds lame but it allowed me to get a full nights sleep and the neighbors were over joyed.

 

Most likely your horn swithch in the steering column is bad. The switch is made from two thin pieces of foil lined plastic, separated by tiny inward facing bumps to keep the foil layers apart. When you press the horn button, the layers of foil touch and make contact. Over time, the bumps loose their ability to bounce back and to keep these layers apart. That's when the horn starts blaring at random times. The only way to fix it is to replace the horn switch. Unfortunately, you can't buy and replace just the horn switch - it is not offered for sale by itself. You have to replace the whole front airbag assembly together with the horn button and the cover.
Two alternatives exist:
1. Put a push button switch somewhere to replace the compromised partition the horn circuit I the steering g column. Run that to the relay I stead of original button. That's the easiest but not the cleanest way to do it.
2. There is a way to "fix" the horn switch. I've seen a blog post somewhere talking about how to remove the switch and all few things strips of nonconductive matrial between two layers to make it functio again. It is an involved process, where you have to disassemble the steering column and deal with the driver airbag. Much more difficult prosess, but in the end everything looks like original.
