2006 Montero Limited - need new wheel hub/bearings
Hearing an intermittent noise from the front drivers side at slow speed when turning or when braking - happens infrequently. Took it to the dealer and they say I need to replace the wheel hub/bearings. They say it'll be about $800. Does this sound reasonable? I'm not a do it yourselfer but it seems pretty steep - this is only for the left side - they suggest NOT changing both as the other may last a lot longer.
My Monty is a 2006 with about 120,000 miles - had it since new.
Any input appreciated.
If there are other shops in the Dallas, TX, area you can recommend that would be appreciated as well.
Thanks.

OEM Mitsubishi hub cost about $250. I never had this job done at the dealer - did it myself. So can't really tell you if the total parts + labor is fair or not. Sounds a little high, but that is the dealership labor cost. You can get quotes from a couple of independent shops. Keep in mind, they will likely to use aftermarket hubs. Those tend to be much less expensive, but do not last as long as OEM. You can ask them to source actual Mitsubishi part and see what the cost difference will be compared to the dealership.
Definitely only replace the bad side. There is no reason to do the other side unless and when it goes bad.
