Default 4wd Drive and Possessed Brake Light

My Wife's 2003 Montero Sport had the 4H light flash last year but the 4WD still worked at that time. Now the E-Brake light goes on randomly and the 4WD won't engage. Any Ideas?

In my 1990, the brake light is triggered by either the Ebrake being up or the brake fluid level in the resevoir being low. Causes for low brake fluid include worn pads requiring more fluid in the lines and therefore less fluid in the reservoir.

Check your brake fluid level and your brake pads for wear. Most likely the cause of the possesed light.

The 4WD light is triggered by a sensor at either the wheels or the transfer case. This sensor can go bad. I'd check there first.

HTH.
