Default 89 montero oxygen sensor colors

hello, new to the mf. i've pulled my codes for the montaro, and need some help. i got a 11, 12, 13, 25, 41, 42. i got 12, 13, and 25 taken care of. so now im on to the 02 sensor. the truck idles fine, but after 3 min. it bogs down, like it wants to die. it catches it self then idles great after.it says fuel pump (42) and injectors (41). i really just dont see this as my problem. any help here would be great. anyways, i got a new 02 sensor, and the colors of the new are: signal (black) heat (white) X2 and ground (gray) the montero has 2 black, one white, one red. NOW the old 02 sensor has 2 black, one green, one yellow. and the combo is WAY off. i've been looking for two day to find what i need to do this, but cant seem to find the info i was looking for. i would have cleaned the old 02 but it was all ate up. i need some help here guys. thanks.

Did you get a universal one and need to match up the wires?

PS ~ Welcome to the forum. Why not update your avatar to include the year and type of your Montero so folks like me won't have to ask It may speed up an answer to your woes.

Hi, me again.

Here's what I found after just changing my oxygen sensor, which is the single best thing you can do to help your vehicle run great, next to keeping the oil clean, IMHO, given the ease of replacement vs. possible gain.

Anyway, my Haynes (83-96) lists these colors in the schematic:

• BRN - ground
• BLK - ground
• WHT - to ECU
• WHT/RED - to Variable Induction Control Solenoid/ECU/Fuel Injectors

However, the old sensor I removed from my vehicle is colored this way (holding the connector towards you):

1 | 2
— —
3 | 4

1. BLUE
2. BLACK
3. WHITE
4. BLACK

Go figure.

To test your sensor, the manual says to connect #2 and #4 to a multimeter and check for continuity. It should be about 20 ohms when the sensor is cool.

There's another test to measure the output voltage, but then doesn't give the numbers!

Whatever you do, put a new sensor in there. To me, it's like trying to clean your spark plugs after they've got 60,000 miles on them. Maybe you could do it, but why not just put fresh ones in?
