You might have a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum hoses and air intake boot connections. It is possible that MAF is dirty, but it is more likely to act up at load and not at idle. If all that is OK, then it may be IAC issues (if equipped).

You can try to spray starter fluid around the intake manifold while the engine is running. If you get engine to suddenly rev up - you found a vacuum leak.

Thanks I will definitely try that. I will post once I have tried and let you know how it goes

Does your truck have IAC (Idle Air Control) valve? I'd check that - disconnect the wire to it with the engine running. It IAC works properly, the engine should stumble. If you observe no changes -IAC (or wiring going to IAC) is the suspect.

Ok I will try that. Is there any chance of damage to the engine in doing this?
