Default 93 Montero SR - Some Questions

I'm fixing up a 93 Montero SR and I was surprised that the rear axle is "open" in lieu of LSD. I know it is open beecause the other wheel rotates the oposite direction when you spin one wheel with both off the pavement.

My 89 Montero LS has an LSD. Why did they go with an "open" rear axle? Is that to allow for the "Active Drive 4WD" to operate as designed.

I was glad to find that it has 4 wheel disc brakes though! :-)

Both rear shocks are shot and based on costs I think I will be pulling the "adjustable ride" system off this thing and save some weight to boot.

I have not yet driven this rig. The reason I got it real cheap was engine related. I now have the engine ready to install and I'm checking out what other issues it may have. It's a 3.0 SOHC.

Thanks for your replies

Default No LSD

Found out at 4x4wire that the 92-93s did not necessarily have LSD. Surprised by this!
