94 Montero Tranny Slipping in 2nd.....Advice? Pictures
Kudos to Naeos for correct call on TPS sensor calibration. I found an article describing TPS calibration and transmission/idle issues for Mitsubishi Eclipse, but wasn't sure if it is applicable to Montero, so i did not want to post it until further research. Apparently procedure is applicable!!! Learn something new every day.
How in the world did we do any of it before internet?...

Hunter.......I agree with you.....w/o the internet and this Mitsu. site, I would be lost. I still do not quite understand why the engineers decided to link the TPS with tranny performance. I also dont quite understand why you are not supposed to adjust that SAS screw for idle adjustment......it just changes where the butterfly flap shuts and how much air flow is going past it at idle. (I guess that in a grid-down scenario with Mad Maxes running loose, and your IAC went bad, then you could adjust the SAS screw to allow the engine to idle with a busted IAC).
Setting the idle via the screw will set the speed at only one specific condition - specific air temperature, engine air temp, etc. IAC allows computer to compensate for cold/hot engine, various air temps, AC being on/off, etc.
