Default '95 Montero engine is shot...any other engine go in?

I've had a great deal going on and totally forgot to check the oil. In short, I ruined the engine. The knocking was soooo loud and then it died on me. I'm a disabled vet and can't afford the $1,000+ to buy a new motor and it's hard to find the 3.5 montero at auto part recycle places. Is there another motor that can be used? Please help me. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your motor, but the cheapest way is a re-build or use the proceeds from sale as is to buy something running.

Good luck.
