My 98 montero is stalling out. it runs fine then stalls out when i come to a stop - i have to tap the gas to keepit running.what's up?!?

 

Probably an iac motor.

 

i found an article for the dakota/ durango iac fix. is the procedure similar for my 98 montero? if not, any leads to articles/ diagrams for the fix? thanks

 

No I wouldn't use that.

Do you have a check engine light?

 

could you give me both scenarios - w & w/o check engine light? because i saw the light on at a point between stall and startup which could mean it came on as a result of the stall or just before startup [:-]thanks

 

Well the reason I ask is because you can hook up a diagnostic computer at autozone (for free) and find out what is going wrong.

 

Mine has been stalling since new. I was told about the IAC. Right now mine hascheck engine light on but that is for coolant temperature sensor.

 

Its been stalling for 10 years?

 

So why dont you get it fixed?

 

the diagnostic checks out ok - no codes showed on their computer - the read-out was "pass". the check engine light is not coming on when this happens which is not often. just taking a preventative approach.
