I had a 96 Montero LS a few years ago and have missed it. I recently bought a 2001 XLS. My question is, can I take the compass/multi display out of a Limited and put it in my XLS? I have searched everywhere and cant find the answer.

 

you should pull that center cluster and see if there is a harness back there that is the shape as the connector for the limited that do have the display.if so. should make things very easy to swap it

 

I dont have the display from the Limited so I would have no idea if the plugs are the same. Im guessing it probably wouldnt be. I doubt the XLS has all of the sensors that the limited needs to make the display work, but thats why I asked here. Hoping someone has done it or tried to do it.

 

did you have any luck with the rv meter, Im looking to do the same install and want to know if its as simple as putting in the screen

After Much searching, I found the information and wire diagrams to do it. Go to link at the bottom of my post. Scroll down to "RV Meter... 54A-189". under that you should see "SYMPTOM PROCEDURES... 54A-200". Open that up. and all the information need is there. Wire diagrams. connector locations. and what terminals you need to wire into. Took a bit of hunting under the dash to find the right connectors, But was able to get the project done in 5-6 hours

I know this is an older topic, but I can get the power to the thing and it tells me turn ignition to "on" to start test. Any ideas on what wires have to be hooked up to get past that, th FSM is not being very helpful, lol, as far as what goes where, I cant seem to find the same plugs its calling out. I have the wire pigtail from the Limited RV meter as well. Thanks

 

Hi did you get the RV meter to work? Samething is hapens to me, it turns on but i can get pass the message " turn ign key to on possition" nothing else after that. Please help and thanks.
