Brake Alarm on 2001 Montero?
Hello,
I have a friend with a 2001 (may be a 2000) Montero 2WD. About a month ago, a alarm went off when he made a sharp right turn. Heturned off the ignition and the alarm continued. Eventually, after making another turn, the alarm went away. He told me that in the owner's manual, it talks about a brake pad sensor alarm. Well, he had the brakes replaced and the guys at the shop said there was no brake pad sensor wire or anything like that on the brakes. He had the brake switch repalced, but yesterday, the alarm went off again. He says that it happens when he turns right (sharp maybe). When it did it the last time, he drove in circles and it stopped after a few turns. I know this sounds weird, and I personally haven't heard the alarm, but does anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that was the first thing I thought of as well. Reading some other posts, I am thinking that it may be a defective airbag sensor. Told that the sensor os located on the drive wheel. Thanks for the suggestion though, hopefully someone out there knows.
if its an audible alarm, its due to low pressure in the hydraulic brake booster. Most likely a ruptured accumulator, which was under a factory recall in 2001.
although its possible its due to other reasons. The alarm goes off whenever proper boost pressure cannot be maintained, as it is VERY dangerous. The front brakes take massive pressure to operate without hydraulic boost pressure, and the rears operate solely on said pressure.... so without it, you have no rear brakes at all.
get it into the dealer soon and have it checked. there will be trouble codes stored in the HBB unit.
i should also ask this... when you apply the brakes, do you hear a funny "boing" type sound, or something that sounds a bit like a spring vibrating?
{edit} Is this a full size montero, or a montero sport?
because everything I wrote ONLY applies to a full size montero.
