Hello,
I am trying to replace the brake shoe on my 2002 Montero XLS.
I have removed the caliper, the rotor/drum and now popping off the springs to remove the old shoes.

I am finding that the old shoes are smaller than the new shoes that I just bought at O'reilleys.
The part number for the new shoes is: 728.
I am seeing the same part number for new shoes on rock auto as well. Bendix 728.

Have these new shoes been retrofitted to the same drum size?
I am trying to reuse the same springs etc, but doesn't look right at all.
Do I have the correct shoes?
I don't have an original part number for the original shoes.
I do have a picture of them and you can see the difference is significant.
Any ideas?
I welcome your experience and opinions.

the new shoe is on the left side. the old shoe is on the right side. I can't see how I can get that new shoe into the brake drum. Houston we have a problem.

 

They sold you a wrong part. Unfortubately it happens at these stores, even though they say it's the correct part for your make/model. You just need to know your vehicle and try again. Take them back together with the old shoes. Then check at the counter to make sure that replacement is correct size/shape.

 

thank you for your response. My montero xls, NOT a sport does not use brake drums for the rear brakes. It actually uses a hybrid rotor/drum, with caliper and pads.
Inside the hybrid rotor/drum is the parking brake shoes.
it's a difference of 10" brake shoes v. 7" parking brake shoes.
I got it sorted out, but the website at o'reilly is wrong/incomplete.
I am installing them now.
