Post Check Engine Light Mystery Solved

2002 Montero Sport 3.0 L 162K

Just thought I would offer some very interesting knowledge. My Truck had the check engine light on for years, and yes several mechanics had tried to fix what was wrong and all have failed. The codes it was giving EGR, Catalytic Converter, Mass Air Flow etc... at one point it was giving up to 12 codes - Each time that a part was replaced and all codes cleared, never failed within a few days the check engine light would reappear. Truck drove fine but over and over the same codes would slowly start showing up. Amazingly enough after driving to a store and upon my return tried to start my truck and it wouldn't start. Literally there was nothing no noise from the ignition, no crank from the starter. So replaced both, turned the key and still no start but at least now I was getting a single click and then some buzzing from the ignition. Found that the ignition fuse had some corrosion, so bushed off the connectors replaced the fuse and hooray my truck starts. And guess what NO more check engine light. What the heck all those codes, all those parts replaced , all the cost over the years .... can anyone explain the mystery light?

Most likely incorrect voltage readings because of corrosion.
