Check engine light on, scanner cannot connect to OBD!?
I recently took my 03' Montero to a local auto parts store to scan the OBD for the error code and the scanner was "unable to communicate with the computer" Aside from the obvious (checking the wires in the OBD connector and verifying no debris is in there) why would I not be able to scan it?
The parts guy said there is sometimes a fuse for the OBD connector, but I cannot find one for it. Even if the scanner/OBD port connectors match up, could it be that the scanner they are using isn't compatible?
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

After checking the circuit diagrams, I discovered the multi display unit must be connected for the scanner to work. I had removed that a few weeks ago because the LCD failed and needs to be replaced.
