Checking hydraulic valve adjuster(s)
I'm in the middle of replacing the valve seals on my '91 RS (grr...this car is my pennance for being a difficult child, I'm sure of it). The car has been making valve noise off and on for some time that sounds like one or more of the hydraulic adjusters maybe oughta should be replaced.
The Haynes manual (with which I am MUCH less than impressed) shows these can be checked by poking a piece of wire through an air bleed hole in the tops of the rockers. Guess what...no holed in the tops of the rockers on my engine. There is what APPEARS to be a check-ball of some sort in the side of the rocker off-set from center but it doesn't seem overly interested in compressing.
Any suggestions or do I just take the shotgun approach and replace all twelve adjusters at $15-20 ea?
Many thanks,
Scottrik
