cranky sensor issues
Have 97 Montero Sport 4X4 w/ 3.0. Had misfire. Traced it to #3-6 coil not firing. Found crank sensor had been damaged from loose crank bolt and pulley. Replaced sensor and now have sluggish throttle response at low speeds. Also sputtered and misfired this morning when I started but it cleared itself. No codes and my Snappy MT2500 is limited to info. Anyone got an answer to my riddle? Or, at least a direction to travel in. Greatly appreciated. Ron

Replace the coil maybe?
Try replacing your plugs and wires. Maybe resetting the ECU
To reset the ECU you just leave the key in the ignition and remove the negative battery terminal for a few mins.

RE: cranky sensor issues
Thanks for the quick reply sebba. I don't think it is a coil. I put plugs and wires in it 2 months ago. When it started to misfire the customer drove it around with it like that. When it came to me it wouldn't even start because3-6 coil was not firing. There was obvious damage to the crank sensor from the pulley being loose. When I replaced the sensor all cylinders were firing great. But I noticed that it didn't have throttle response at low speed. Almost like the timing is off. It takes a long time to get up tospeed.I have driven this car for last 2 days and it is running with just a little stumble. I am wondering if either #3 and 6 spark plugs are fouled or if the catalytic convertor is clogged from them driving it around with a misfire. I believe the computor is supposed shut fuel off to cylinders that are misfiring but you know what they say about computors. They don't always work. Thanks again. If you think of anything else give a post.
