Default Dear mechanic - please remember to tighten the lug nuts!

Saturday, on the way back from getting my new wheel bearing for $1200.00 (See post below "For the sake of information"), I hear a mild knocking noise coming from the front end. I just wanted to get home and since the noise was coming from the opposite side that they had worked on, I figured it's something new for me to figure out. I didn't have the time or will to go back to the dealership especially after waiting 2 hours to just get the vehicle cleaned up. As I got home the noise got worse. I parked the Montee in the garage dejected. Next morning, I jacked up the front end to have a look. I started to loosen the lugs - guess what - all loose except for two which were finger tight only. I figure the mechanic inspected the other side, and forgot to tighten the lugs. I finished the mechanics job by tightening the lugs - good as new.

You spend the bucks to see the pros.

New car sales guy was up my *** and down my throat trying to sell me a new car while I waited for the clean-up.

Called the service dude today to fury on him a bit - go figure - he was off today. So the forum is a nice place to vent right now.

Makes me want to hurry back for more service. Hope the tech greased the bearing - or is that extra???? I'll check next weekend and let you guys know.

Thanks off roader. I was going to call the guy this morning, but as with all unpleasant things (cost and crappy service) one has a tendency to avoid it. However, reading dirtwagons post frosted my sack. I didn't think to consider it from the sinister point of view. When I came in, I actually had the problem diagnosed, and I discussed some other service tech stuff so the guys there knew I wasn't a total amateur. Though I think loosening the lug nuts on purpose may be a bit heavy handed knowing that I'm not totally green, I like the way dirtwagon thinks and I really want to talk to these guys now.

Will post the results.

Thank you both!

Thank you dirtwagon for a most interesting perspective on this. I like the way you think. Please see my reply to off roader. I REALLY want to talk to this goof now.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
