Did I get ripped off?
Can any of you with experience give me an opinion on this.
I had the torque converter shudder on my 2002 montero sport.
I called the dealer and asked about the TSB and cost of the flush.
They quoted $175 but said I should bring it in so they could check if it was indeed a fluid issue.
I dropped it off and they called and said that it had dexron fluid they "could tell by the smell"
and recommended changing the fluid. That didn't sound right so I said that I wanted it flushed and I was told $175 for a flush and asked
how much I had racked up in diagnostics. He said if I did a flush there would be no diag. cost
and that they would flush it clean out the pan and check the filter and replace if needed.
Also the PCM needed updated for $45 for a hesitation that I didn't notice I told them to go ahead with both.
So they called and said its all done. Me and the wife pick it up and I asked if they did the filter
because I didn't see it on the parts list He said it was fine and didn't need changed.
So we left for dinner about 2 miles from the dealer the wife said that it did not shudder.
I was reviewing the work report and noticed that there was only 6 Qt's of SP3 used and 1 can
of BG ATC pro conditioner and I thought wait they didn't flush it.
I called and asked and he insisted they did flush it but could only get 6qts out they tried but that's
all they could get out. He asked if it was working ok I said we only drove 2 miles. He said try it over the
weekend and call back Monday this was 4:30 on Friday. We drove home 20 miles and no shudder.
So I am fuming and checked the cooler lines clean as a whistle haven't been touched the pan gasket
is old and hasn't been touched it did look like the drain plug may have been removed.
I drain a little fluid and its DARK. So my question is does this look like the result of 6 new Qt's of new
fluid mixed with 4 qt's of old. Or did I just pay $239 for a can of conditioner and a possible PCM Update?
The left bottle is the fluid in my montero now the right is brand new fluid for reference there about 1/4" deep.
Kinda long winded but I would like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks

Cool that's exactly the technical advice
I was looking for.
Guess I will call tomorrow and start bitching at a manager and see where it gets me.
I don't think I even want to take it back to them I have zero confidence that they will do any good.
Thanks
