Question Driving lights on Montero Limited

Any idea on how to make it so they can be turned on without the headlights being on? When I pull in at 1 am it would be nice not to light up all the town homes but still be able to have lights while I drive.

Yea theres an easy way to do it, you will have to consult the DSM VFAQ section and do similar install

vfaq.com

-------

edit, also and perhaps more known to people as "FOG LIGHTS"

Thanks for the site. I was hoping for a way of doing it while keeping the switch on the panel.

Yea you do keep it just the way it is, except you don't have to turn on the headlights to have them on.

This is also nice to have on during dusk right before its completely dark.

Don't think you looked and found what I was referring you to since you asked you wanted to keep the switch on the panel..

so i found it for you

http://vfaq.com/mods/2G_foglights.html

Just wire the montero the same way and it will give you same results.

Don't know if your familiar or have noticed, but DSMs are Mitsubishis and usually refer to Eclipses. They are similar in setup with their foglights, they will not go on unless the headlights are on.

Nope just found one that said I had to wire it directly into park lights.

The vfaq link is for keeping fog lights on while the H/L's are in Bright mode - what Montero LTD needs may be a side effect of that fix but without the H/L's on there are two relays that need to be jumped. And on the Fog Lamp relay you need to not only apply power to the coil side but also to the load contacts. Too many chances for error and meltdown IMO.

That may be why the other link MonteroLTD found suggests connecting the final Fog Lamp wiring to the final Parking Lamp wiring. I would do this via a push button momentery switch somewhere on/under the dash - and use an in-line fuse just to be double sure. The challenge here is to make the splice connections water tight and to find a hole in the firewall.

I love this sort of wiring mod challenge, but ultimately this may be the best and cheapest way to keep your neighbors happy without tearing into your perfectly good wiring harness: http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SAC.../dp/B000H94FNM (and it has other uses as well)

Well I had a lot of fun (hint sarcasm) finding out about a whole lot of shiz to make this work. Now I know why with the double relay or whatever.

So in the end....it looks like I am going to buy some good old fashion "true" fog lights with the yellow light output and have three sets of lights. hehe....maybe I will get the big 10 inchers for off roading, and moving traffic.
