agree with mb on this.its very hard for a montero/pajero engine to fail.lots of pajero here are running great even after 700k km on the odo.even the bodywork start to fell off.
my LO47GV is wearing out but does not fail on me even once.now the odo is 683k km.
where i'm staying, damage engine are mostly caused by overheating, usage of very2 low quality engine oil.

however on my manufacturing point of view, this could be those cases which make for the bell-shape graph in the normal distribution manufacturing thingy.

nah.. not on this.

The 6g engines are unbreakable unless abused. My own has 226000 miles on it. You know whats been done to it?
NOTHING! oil changes. And one timing belt at 160k.

I certainly hope you mean that "ONLY" the bottom end doesn't fail, because I justhad todo a head gasket job on a 6G

[*]2002: 6Cyl 3.0L Gas, FI, Naturally Aspirated, VIN "H", 6G7202" Sport, that was never abused, never overheated...nothing...it just failed as does everything mechanical...no matter who built it!

89,000miles...one owner and pop goes the head gaskets

So please, Continue about how this motor doesn't fail.

[*]i doubt VERY much you would need head gaskets EVER. Who told you that you did? Because they were wrong. They're mearly stamped steel. Theres nothing to fail. If head damaged had occured, it was due to overheating and thats it.[*]

I don't want to turn this into a flame war like posts can get on my other forum, but if something is mechanical, it CAN fail, no matter how well they are manufactured or how well maintained. ******, Have you ever had to replace a faucet in your house because it was leaking? Chances are it failed and wasn't abused. There are a number of reasons that a mechanical item can fail that has nothing to do with abuse. If someone can tell me how to post pics, I'll post one of the wife's engine. It had 100k+ miles, used in town as a daily driver, oil changes every 3K miles, any maintenence that was needed was done, and all records since it was purchased came with the vehicle. There are a number of things that can cause an engine, tranny, transfer case, etc to fail. Yes, these are well built vehicles, hence the reason I bought one for my wife, but if it is mechanical, even with the best preventive maintenece out there, if there was a manufacturing error, or one bolt or component not quite up to par from the supplier, then even the best built engine, etc can fail do to no fault of the owner. It a sorry day when people stop giving their fellow man the benifit of the doubt and say it was their fault.

Has anyone seen pics of the bottom end of his engine? Has anyone on here personally heard it run, or try to run? As far as I know they have not. Stop and think a few minutes. Their are a number of reasons besides abuse to cause a failure. I hope that he can get his records, and get the problem solved through Mitsubishi. If not, I hope that there are people who are non judgemental on here and can help him get his Monti running again. I cane to this forum for answers about my monti. I got more help off a non-mitsu forum than I did off one dedicated to the monti. Chances are, i will soon stop posting here because of people saying its too hard to do this or you can't do that. If a person has enough willpower and ingenuity, anything is possible. All I am sayin is people need to think a little before speaking, and give the benifit of the doubt before saying it is this or that.

Just my .02 worth.
