I own a 1993 Montero with an electrical problem. It stalled and would not restart. I had it towed to a service station, and was told that there is a short in the wiring system which is causing the fuel pump to constantly run, even when the engine is turned off. There is a faint smell of burnt insulation under the dash, and upon inspection of as much of the wiring harness as i could, saw no damage. I am trying to determine what to do next- aside from the electrical malfunction, the vehicle is in excellent condition (the mechanic told me that it may cost more to fix than what the vehicle may be worth) and i don't want to junk it. any suggestions on how to locate the short circuit or any diagnostic procedures would be greatly appreciated. It is a 6G72 3.0 liter V6 engine with MFI

Fuel pump constantly on? That is causing the engine not to start? That is a real screwy answer. I would get another mechanics opinion.
