Gen 3 seized rear camber adjusters - has anyone DIY'd this?
Hi: Been away from the forums for a while but still have my '05 Limited - and it's running very well at 153k miles. Only issue is that the rear eccentric bolts that adjust the suspension are solidly rusted in place. I've seen a number of postings here and on Pajero sites about this problem so it's not that rare. I'm a pretty aggressive DYI type and have a low rise lift, torch, etc. but am not sure I'm eager to dive into this one. And shops I've talked to want between $1K and $2,300!! LOL!
Anyone out there tackled this? Any tips on techniques? Heat? Sawzall? Were you able to save the control and locator arms or buy new?

How badly are the bolts rusted? Do they retain good hex shape on the heads? Post a photo if you get a chance. I was ready to find a replacement control arm because my bolts were seized and I was told by another person that the only way to take it off is by cutting up the control arm.
Lucky for me, my mechanic was able to break loose one of the eccentric bolts that was seized. He used a ton of penetrating oil to soak up all threads and contact points around the bolt plus time). Then used 3-4 ft extension (I think it was 3/4" diameter) ot enable him to work straight from behind the vehicle and an air wrench to loosen the bolt. Prior to that attempt, I've been spraying the bolts with penetrating oil for weeks.
On another car repair forum I frequent, I've seen a discusdion about what sort of penetrating oil is the best at breaking up rusty connections. The overall consensus is - a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and transmission fluid. If you're patient enough, you will be able to save the control arm. Apply the mixture daily for a week or longer, then use the biggest impact wrench with a 6-point impact socket and it will come out.

Thanks HunterD: This has given me some new momentum to try it myself. The bolts are in great shape and I'm going to start applying a lot of penetrating oil and repeat for several weeks before trying to remove. Will post the results.
