Hey everyone! I'm Michael and I just recently bought a Gen1 Montero that needed a new head gasket. Started up great before I replaced it and now it won't fire up. I had to remove the distributor and I've brought it to tdc multiple times and adjusted the points. I have spark and fuel. It's cranking pretty fast and I think compression might be the problem but where is it leaking out? Could it be on the exhaust stroke? I've been trying to figure it out for a week and its getting pretty frustrating, anyone that can help?

 

Check your timing. It's possible that you did not get it aligned correctly after reinstalling heads. That could result in low compression and no start condition.

 

Should I use a OBD II scanner to read code or a timing light? Sorry timing is not my forté and I'm tired or working until 1 am after a 12 hour day

 

Nether one will show you what you need to look for. You have to open up the timing belt covers and see if all of them line up when the engine is at TDC.
