Default Help swapping a diesel into 88 Montero

Hello, new here. My name is Jerry and I have been looking to get either an early Montero or Trooper for a while now. I found a 88 Montero with a bad 4 cylinder engine and manual trans. I also found a Mighty Max 4x4 with a diesel and 5 speed. The truck frame is rusted pretty badly so I would be buying it for just the engine/trans. Questions is, would the drivetrain from the Mighty Max fit/work in the Montero without having to do significant fabricating. Truck is listed as an 83 but I am pretty sure it is actually an 86 - at least from looking at the body of the truck.

I would love to have the diesel in the Montero so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It shouldn't be a major problem, maybe slight mods, but it will most probably fit. 1988 Montero and 1988 Second Gen. Mighty Max basically shared the same platform. Now, the MM you found doesn't matter if 1983 or 1986, they are the same First Gen.

Swapping the engine should be an easy task, the worst might be that you have to fabricate custom engine mounts. This task can easily be accomplished by any machine shop or custom fabricator. As for the mating of the engine to the trans, it is straight forwards.
