I've got an old 1990 montero on her last leg. Crank shaft broke and she's almost done for. Still runs and drives but knocking, smoking, and everything else. I need to swap the motor, but I don't know what is compatible.

I want to put something else in besides the 6G72 stock 3.0 V6. Something with more power that can still be used on the stock transmission. Also something easier to find...the stock engines are ridiculous to find, and not too terribly cheap either. What can fit in there? Anybody know anything about this?

I considered a 4BT cummins swap...that would be awesome...but it costs too much, I just don't have the money for it.

anything will fit if you have enough time/skill/money.

 

You could always get a second hand 6G72 DOHC 24 valve they have much more power and can be found in pajero, montero, and triton. Plus still be good for your 4X4. And with a simple ECU tuning you can get a 30% power boost.o
