Default How hard?

How hard is it to change out the main serpentine pulley on my '97 montero? My crank bolt started to back out and in turn made the pulley warped. Can I do it or do i need to take it to the stealership or and independent shop? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
James

Do I have to remove anything to get to it?

I honestly couldn't tell you, but in general they are fairly easy. Just one bolt...

the problem will be holding the pulley in order to torque that bolt. IIRC it requires ~130 ft-lbs.
I had to build a tool for it.

hello! if that crank bolt came loose it is possible that the threads inside the crank itsself were damaged. i would buy a tap to clean out the threads in the crank, and use a new bolt to install. be sure to use lots of thread lock on the new boltwhen you reinstall. the tourqe is 134 ft.lbs. use a large chain wrench to hold the pulley when you retourque the bolt. the dealer will have that bolt in stock, that is a common problem on the montero. whoever did the last t-belt replacement didnt tourque it correctly. good luck! greg...
