intermittent ignition problems with 1990 Montero
My 1990 Mitsubishi Montero has the V-6 engine. It cranks well. When it runs, it runs well, but will stop without warning occasionally. More often than not, it won't start after being run and then shut off. When it won't restart, no spark is present. No engine codes are showing. Does it sound like a coil issue or the power unit on the bracket next to the coil? This is my girlfriend's primary vehicle...please help if possible!

RE: intermittent ignition problems with 1990 Montero
Thanks for the advice, but I can not find a map sensor any where listed for this vehicle.Almost like one doesn't exist for this year.Could it be under another name? Also, I thought a faulty sensor would throw a code ?Thanks!

RE: intermittent ignition problems with 1990 Montero
Thanks for the advice, right now it seems trying a new coil seems to be the cheapest option. I found one at O'reilly for under 100 bucks. Its not a factory part, but hopefully it still works. Everything else is seems very high dollar. As far as the ECU going bad, wouldn't it throw a code? Thanks again for everyones help!!!!!

RE: intermittent ignition problems with 1990 Montero
Well gentelmen, I put the new ignition coil in, and that was not the problem .it still does the same .It starts fine and runs fine until it heats up. when I shut it off, it does not have spark.I think it has to do with the heat, and I believe it to be under the hood, since that is where most of the heat comes from. What is a
TPS, and what does it do. Also, how about the ignition control module?Any ideas? Thanks everyone for your input.
