I havent looked at any 2002's because I hear they are less reliable, anybody know if this is true?
Never had a problem with my 02 in 13 years that i have owned, but remember that any vehicle is as good as the preventive maintenance it gets.

Truck looks really nice and clean and i think the price is good, if you decide to buy it just make sure you change the ATF with mitsubishi Diamond III, good luck.

Sweet, I think im gonna go check it out this weekend, although if I buy it how do I trek it home? Being that its a private seller and on a Saturday the dmv will be closed. I have the tags that I just took off my xterra, I thought about slapping them on it and having my wife follow me...only its 150 miles away

Well, I've never heard that before, but from my experience the Gen. III model is very reliable (when taken care of properly).
I bought my 2002 with under 30k miles on it.
It now has over 158k miles.
The rig has never left us stranded.

Good Luck on the Montero hunt.

Well I have decided to go with the 03 and im gonna go look at it on Saturday. I called about the 04 That is being sold at a small dealership. It had 127k and the didnt know if the timing belt has been changed. So if it hasn't its already 7k past due. Also the dealership has been there less than a year and the truck is being sold as is. It was at the top of my price range so if I did get it and it broke down I would be s.o.l. so the safest bet for me is to get the 03 with 155k that way I have some $$$ left over for repairs if needed.
