Default Low oil prerssure on rebuild

2nd post>>>>anyone have any ideas?? I don't want to chew up bearings etc..

Help!!!! I've got a 1987 2.6L sport. I rebuilt the engine (top and bottom). When I start up I get 40lb oil pressure, when the oil heats up I'm getting less than 20lb oil pressure at idle, less than 30lb at highway speed and 40lb at 75mph. The oil pump is new, I installed the eliminator kit and alligned the marks when I rebuilt the engine. I've went so far as to remove the pan and replace the pickup tube ( thought it might be cracked). I'm running Castrol 5w50 and Fram oil filter. No one has been able to tell me what might be the problem.
Help!!!!

I am not inclined to give you any advice on your pressure issue, since...I don't have any.

I did want to comment on the fact that you are using a Fram filter on a newly rebuilt engine? I have heard in many forums that Fram filter quality has bottomed out and the filters are crap. With that much work done on that engine I would look into trying a higher quality filter...but this is a matter of opinion, not fact.

after the rebuild, and initial start up, you have to change oil and filter again because all the gunk and rebuild grease used does not stay in the system, its just SOP.

The first thing I would do after replacing the oil filteris to replace the oil pressure sending unit. If that doesn't do it, I would install a manual gauge. Do you have any engine noise that would indicate oil startvation or low oil pressure?

hello!! if you look up the oil pressure spec, it is 11 lbs at idle at operating temperature. if its a little higher than that, its ok. i have those old sevice manuals for that motor and the 2.0L. that is the factory spec. sounds like you have normal oil pressure! use a factory filter too, they are less than 5 dollars. good luck!! greg...
