Default mitsubishi montero limited transmission overhaul kit from dealer

i went to the dealer 2 weeks ago and i told them that my tranny has blown and i need to rebuild it.

they showed me an overhaul kit that was for sale for $500.00 and it seemed like a good deal.

in the picture it showed a huge range of gears and gaskets in it.

i asked the guy working there that does it come with the reverse gear and all the other gears and he was stumped.

does anyone know what it comes with..

the car gear does not move and the reverse is completely 100% gone, and it also starts off in limp mode. if that helps anyone understand my situation.

id be surprised if you got a full pinion set for 500$.
Id be more surprised if you actually managed to rebuild your trans.

do you do it for a living?
Do you have any idea how many small spinny bits are in a gearbox?

well im mechanically inclined and my brother in law is a mechanic.

lol i did not know that there was a lot of small parts in there.
this would be the biggest project that we have taken on.

i cant find any used trannys and everywhere i go, mechanics are trying to charge me 3 to 5 thousand dollars for it which makes no sense.

its entirely doable. If you have a few days off work and lots of patience.

Id say you need to be more than 'mechanically inclined' to rebuild a gearbox.

By all means, go for it.
I think youll find the 'rebuild kit' is some oil seals, gaskets, maybe a few sensors. Again. I highly doubt youd get a pinion set for 5 hundy.

Since you tried to get the information from the parts department at the dealer and he was of no help, have you tried calling anyone that sells OEM parts on-line. I've found that the reps. for these companies are often very knowledgeable and helpful. Perhaps they can help you.
