Default Mitsubishi Refuses to Work on Transmissions?

I called the local Mitsubishi Dealer to ask about having my transmission inspected and possibly repaired. The manager of the repair shop interrupted me to say that, "Mitsubishi won't let us repair transmissions on the Montero, they will only let us replace them, and send the old one back to the factory for diagnosis."

Anyone else been told this by their dealer or should I take it somewhere else? This is the only Mitsubishi dealer in town, by the way. Thanks!

For a dealer to say that it makes sense. What about using a shop that specializes in transmissions?

i have worked on mitsubishi's for 22 years, at a dealership and i have never heard of that on the montero. if it is out of warranty, then they probably just want to sell you a new one, or a used one. those tranny's are a bit tricky to work on, so they just dont want to fool with it. only mitsubishi trans that we were not allowed to work on was the 5speed in the vr4 3000. if one failed, we put in a new one. that was a getrag transmission, and we were not even supplied tools to take it apart. thats it. call another dealer.
