Default Montero 2003 LTD fuel consumption

I imported a 2003 Montero LTD with a 3,8 l engine from USA. It is a very nice car but I am not satisfied with the fuel consumption. According to some references (e.g. http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/publications/...conversion.cfm) 16,1 L/100 km is to be expected in the city and 11,5 l/100 km on the highway. My experience is 19,5 (city) and 17,5 (highway).
Any advice and/or comments would be appreciated.

I am more familiar with MPG. I looked at the site and the numbers are not correct. The car is rated at 14mpg city and 18mpg highway. I get about 16mpg to 17.5mpg with my Montero. 17.5mpg is highway at about 75mph.

You must also keep in mind that mileage is greatly affected by your climate and elevation. I live in Alaska and in the winter I lose 20% of my mileage because the temperatures range from -20F to -60F. The factory mileage claims are based on performance at sea level with 70F to 80F temperatures. Of course colder air is more dense than warm air and the fuel system must compensate by adding more fuel to the mix for reliable combustion.
