Montero idling problem
I have a 1996 Montero 2.6 with carburetor. I have been having problems with the car idling unsteadily. The car starts fine but the engine will not idle smoothly, it moves 100-200 rpm up and down around 800rpm. When i drive the car and bring it to a stop sometimes the rpms drop down to 500rpm. I have changed the ignition coil, cables, I have had the gasket of the carburetor changed and the timing looked at but the problem persists. Any ideas?
Your Montero being a csrburated engine, it is very likely that the issues actually lie in the carburator. Would be worth checking idle jets to make sure everything is clean there. The best way to approach that would be to take it lcatburayor) to a shop that actually can work on carburators. They can clean it and make sure everything works smoothly.
Thanks. Something else that concerns me is the ignition coil is getting really hot, so that you can't even touch it. This doesn't seem normal. I have changed the ignition coil twice, both dry ignition coil and wet one and its the same result. Could this be related to the car not running well? Any suggestions, thanks.
