Default Montero motor fire

Hello, I have a 1994 Montero which I used to use to pull my boat. Day before yesterday I went the town with it and the 4x4 stayed on and would not come off, so I returned home and after I parked in the garage the motor went on fire.
Someone told me its a defect because the wire for the 4x4 gets crispey and crosses.

That is weird. Why would your engine catch on fire? Do you have a melted/shorted wire somewhere? If your 4wd got stuck, your transfer case should have fallen out first.
