Default Montero sport 6g72 dohc swap to a 4m40 diesel?

Has anyone done a swap like this? Mine is a 2001 sport. I would like to swap to diesel for a few reasons.
There are 219 pgs to this "engine" thread, so please forgive me if this has been covered in the past. None of my key word searches have worked.
Just toying with the idea. Any thoughts will help.
Thanks

I don't really have a lot of knowledge in regards to diesel versions of the sport. That being said, anything is possible if you have the tools, time, money, and dedication. If you're looking for an easy swap, that is probably gonna be a tall order. I can say with relative certainty you will need a donor engine, matching harness, computer, immobilizer, and transmission which you'll have to swap over which can take a good bit of time to fit in place. Hopefully someone else can chime in with more information but that's pretty much all I know for sure.

IMHO at this point you might as well import a Montero Sport from the Philippines as they drive on the right side of the road as well. Not trying to sound pessimistic, in fact if you could find out how to do it easier, I may be interested too.

Thanks for the fast response Naeos. I found a motor and tranny out of Japan for 2500. Not sure of the validity of this but I was told the 4m40 may be mechanical so no cpu. If that is true then I like the simplicity of that. The immobilizer etc. are definitely things to consider. Hopefully someone has already done this and has the insight I need.

If you go ahead with the swap to diesel, please keep posting. It is definitely sounds like an interesting project. Since Mitsibishi made diesel versions of Montero, it should be "doable". The question is how hard it is. In addition to items Nuevos listed, you may need a different fuel pump (definitely a new/different fuel filter). Dont know if you have to make changes to exhaust system. My understanding is diesel exhaust is hotter.

I will. Thanks for the input. My first challenge I need to overcome is if I can register the vehicle. Here in Ca. you have to go through a guy called a "referee". I need to give him some info and wait for a response. I will post what I find out. I would really like to do this swap.
